He Cheated! Can we Move Past That ?

“Babe, can you please close early from work? We need to talk”

So many thoughts ran through Kim’s mind as she read the message her husband left her on Whatsapp. She wondered if everything was okay, why he would want her to close early from work because her husband Donald believed in working hard but she hoped in her heart that all was indeed well.

She was able to pacify her boss to allow her close early, being a banker could be stressful sometimes but she loved her job. Her heart kept pacing, something was definitely not right Donald would not just pull her out of her work for nothing, she just hoped all was well as she drove her Black Lexus jeep home. The room smelled really nice was what Donald really up to, she entered the room and met him looking all sweet, he hugged and kissed her passionately but somewhere in between she could feel he was lost while kissing her.

“Babe are you alright,” she asked after the passionate kiss, he looked at her with so much affection and told her to go take a shower, he just made her favorite meal. He promised they would talk after eating but she couldn’t wait. Kim hurriedly had her shower and rushed the meal, Donald kept pacifying her to be patient but she just wanted to know what is wrong?

Donald looked at her deeply, he messed up this time and he just didn’t know how to tell his beloved wife, he loved her deeply and he could not imagine his life without her. He squeezed her hands with tears and said the words with so much regret “I slept with someone”

Kim couldn’t believe her eyes, she had to ask him to repeat the words and there it was he said it again, he had cheated on her. She could not put her feelings into words, it felt as though, her world was crashing. Donald cheating on her was the last thing on her mind, he was the best husband, and she knew they loved each other so how did this happen. With tears in his eyes, he explained how he ran into his ex-girlfriend Jane at a party and they reconnected, they both had too much to drink and they had sex.

Kim knew it was a mistake but how was she supposed to trust him anymore?

Infidelity in marriage is no doubt a big deal, it is a breach of trust and a disregard of the sacredness of the marital union but what happens when one partner cheats, can a marriage still survive?

Infidelity does not have to be the end of your marriage, it is painful and it comes with a lot of damage but if handled well it can be the root upon which marriage thrives and becomes healthier.

The year was 1992, Hillary Clinton who just contested for the united states of America president alongside Donald Trump was cheated on by her Bill husband while he was the president, her husband denied sleeping with a white house intern “Monica Lewinsky”, he didn’t admit until 1998 that’s six years after but that never ended their marriage. I know it sounds like stories but you can move past that especially when you have a partner who is owning up to his faults and regrets his action. Forgiveness does not mean you have to do it once, it does not mean you forget but it is the ability to forgive each time you remember.

Divorce rate due to infidelity is on the rise and some couples would rather end the marriage, everyone has a choice and we can’t blame those who choose to walk away, it takes a lot to mend a marriage where a partner cheated.

Those who choose to stay in the marriage after a partner cheats always have a lot to deal with, cheating is what happens to a lot of couples but there is a need to work things out.

If you choose to make it work, Make sure you see a therapist to walk you through the process of letting go because it could really break you as the partner who was cheated on.
